Am I inside a city, a CDP or an unincorporated area?
A mapped Census place can be an incorporated city, town or village, or a Census-designated place. A CDP is a named statistical community. It is not an incorporated city merely because a map gives it a name.
Keep the official place type
The result preserves the published local name. A city and a nearby CDP can share a familiar name while having different boundaries. Townships and other county subdivisions form a separate geography, and their role varies by state.
A mailing city can be somewhere else
The city name used to deliver mail may describe a postal route or service area rather than the municipality containing the point. Do not use it to decide taxes, municipal services or voting jurisdiction.
Outside a mapped place is a useful answer
A point outside the incorporated-place and CDP boundaries may still have a community or neighborhood name. This tool does not replace a missing containing place with the nearest city. Use the county result for the next level of context.
